Meet Daniel L. Shapiro, Ph.D., world-renowned expert on the psychology of conflict resolution

Join us for an evening reception and lecture with Professor Daniel Shapiro

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, May 22nd, when the Harvard Club of Dallas is proud to present this year's Visiting Harvard Professor, Dr. Daniel L. Shapiro. The Wharton Club of Dallas-Ft. Worth is also participating as is the World Affairs Council, Harvard Business School Club of Dallas, Yale Club of Dallas, Stanford Club of Dallas, Tsinghua Club of Dallas, Penn Club of Dallas/Ft. Worth, Cornell Alumni Association of North Texas and other fellow Ivy League alumni clubs.

A world-renowned expert on the psychology of conflict resolution, Dr. Shapiro has been named one of Harvard's top 15 professors by The Harvard Crimson. He is the founder and director of the Harvard International Negotiation Program, is an associate professor in psychology at Harvard Medical School/McLean Hospital, an affiliate faculty at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, and regularly advises everyone from hostage negotiators to families in crisis, disputing CEOs to clashing heads of state. Dr. Shapiro's pioneering research focuses on how to address the emotional and identity-based dimensions of negotiation and conflict resolution. He is author of Negotiating the Nonnegotiable and coauthor with Roger Fisher of Beyond Reason: Using Emotions as You Negotiate, and has published extensively in research literature, developing innovative psychological models to conceptualize the affective and relational factors driving conflict and its resolution.

Dr. Shapiro specializes in practice-based research-building theory and testing it in real-world contexts. He has launched successful conflict resolution initiatives in the Middle East, Europe, and East Asia, and for three years chaired the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Conflict Resolution. Just back from the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland, Dr. Shapiro is a highly in-demand speaker, both at Harvard University and internationally through the Washington Speakers Bureau. The International Academy of Collaborative Professionals deemed Dr. Shapiro a:

"ROCK STAR!!! The conference attendees quoted him continuously for the remainder of the event. He took the time to tailor his presentation to our audience and knocked everyone's socks off!"

So important is Dr. Shapiro's visit to Dallas, that KERA's Krys Boyd will be interviewing him live for the May 22nd program of "Think".

The evening reception and lecture will be held at the elegant Belo Mansion. Cocktail reception begins at 6:00 pm, cash bar available.
